The light-elements of an anonymous cepheid and on its probable membership in the galactic cluster NGC 6649.
Abstract
Old and new observations are combined to derive the period (P - 5d1180) and light-elements of the suspected cluster variable in NGC 6649. The star is found to be a cepheid with a distance modulus of (m-M)0 = 11rn.58 and an age of 5.0 10 years. Distance, colour excess, age, and the position of the star within the cluster area, strongly suggest that it is a member of the cluster although the distance of the cluster is ouly approximately determined due to insufficient observations. The Appendix gives some new observations of the suspected red cluster variable No. 117 in NGC 6649. Key words: cepheids - galactic clusters - period luminosity relation.
