Toxicology of α-methyl-α-(2-morpholinoethyl)-l-naphthylacetic acid hydrochloride
Abstract
The choleretic agent α-methyl-α-(2-morpholinoethyl)-1-naphthylacetic acid hydrochloride (DA 1627) was administered for 21–24 consecutive days to rats at the daily doses of 250, 500, and 1000 mg/kg/day. The compound was moderately toxic, with the liver as its target organ. At the end of the experiment the compound was equally as well absorbed as at the beginning of the treatment, thus excluding that the toxicity was due to altered absorption, metabolism, or excretion of the compound. The importance of the determination of blood levels at the end of a chronic experiment is emphasized.
