The analysis of the spectrum of the Large Magellanic Cloud supergiant HD 33579
Abstract
The results of a coarse analysis of HD 33579 have been compared with the results of a similar analysis of the galactic supergiant a Cygni. The abundances of 20 atomic species of 15 elements have been determined. It has been found that: (I)HD 33579 is slightly underabundant in metals in comparison with a Cygni, but the difference is only of the order of in the logarithm; (2)aluminium is the only exception and is clearly underabundant by in the logarithm; (3)the abundances of HD 33579 are similar to cosmic abundances of Urey within the accuracy of the curve of growth method. The conclusion can be drawn that the rate of formation of heavy elements is almost the same in our Galaxy and the Large Magellanic Cloud.
