Pulsar NP 0532 Near Crab Nebula
Abstract
R. V. E. Lovelace, J. M. Sutton and H. D. Craft, Jr., Cornell-Sydney University Astronomy Center, Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory cable that their measurements of the pulsed radio source NP 0532 recently discovered at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Green Bank, reveal a heliocentric period of 33.09114 . 0.00001 ms. Several scans on Nov. 15 indicate a position within 10' from the center of the Crab Nebula. An average pulse shape obtained at 195 MHz from data corresponding to 25,000 pulse periods gives a pulse width of 3 ms at half intensity and shows a strong postcursor of about 1/4 the intensity of the main pulse and trailing by 14 ms.
