Reflection and Transmission of Light by Thick Atmospheres of Pure Scatterers with a Phase Function: 1 + ϖ_{1}P_{1}(cos θ) + ϖ_{2}P_{2}(cos θ)
Abstract
Exact radiative transfer theory is applied to the case of parallel light incident from an arbitrary direction on a nonabsorbing planeparallel atmosphere of large optical thickness, scattering according to a phase function:1 + 1P1 (cos 9) + 2P2 (cos 0) Azimuthindependent terms only are taken into account. Simple asymptotic formulae are obtained for the total reflectance and transmittance and for the auxiliary functions 4, and , 0 < j < 2.
