The dynamical and optical properties of the spherical condenser for non-relativistic charged particles were studied for certain arrangements of the source and very interesting features of this analyser were found. A point source embedded in the hollow inner sphere of the condenser can be imaged, at least theoretically, without any spherical aberration. Very small sources and even weak ones, may be analysed since the device provides very high transmission for a given resolution in comparison with other devices. In addition, fringing effects are eliminated. The deflecting voltages which have to be used are higher than those needed for the sector field analyser, but this seems a reasonable price to pay for the other advantages.
