The Effective Temperatures of Wolf-Rayet Stars as Derived from Their U BV Color Indices Corrected for Emission
Abstract
The UB V color indices and the contributions to them from emission lines (based on calibrated slit spectrograms) have been determined for a number of Wolf-Rayet stars. When reddening corrections are applied, a comparison of the intrinsic color indices of the Wolf-Rayet stars with normal main-sequence stars indicates that the WN stars as a group are hotter than the WC stars by about 15000 K.
