Surface photometry of the sculptor dwarf galaxy
Abstract
Photoelectric surface photometry of 15 areas of the Sculptor dwarf galaxy, when combined with previously published information on the structure of the system, provides accurate luminosity profiles and integrated magnitudes and colors. The surface brightness is similar to that predicted from star counts, assuming a M3-type luminosity function. The integrated magnitude is V=9.8+0.2 and the color is B- U=0.7+0.1. The absolute magnitude is M = -9.9+0.3 and the mass is estimated to be 2.1X106 M .
