Tesseral harmonic perturbations of an artificial satellite
Abstract
The paper extends the known solution of the main problem of the artificial satellite theory to include the effects of the solid tesseral harmonics of the geopotential. For a close satellite, the method of von Zeipel is used to calculate the longperiodic variations of order nJ,,,, a;, where n is the mean motion and c the angular velocity of the earth's rotation. With the aid of the addition theorem for spherical harmonics the results are expressed in a most compact form.
