Note on a general relativity effect in radius for minor planet (1566) Icarus
Abstract
During the close approach of Icarus to earth in 1968, it may be possible to observe a general relativity ef- fect resulting in a departure from Newtonian motion of 50 km in the radius. Because of the closeness of the approach (less than 7 million km), this small effect in radius will correspond to an angular displacement (with respect to a terrestrial observer) of 1 4 from a position predicted by an exact Newtonian theory.
