Perturbations of the coordinates in planetary theory
Abstract
In an earlier work (Danby 1962) matrix methods were used to derive formulas for the calculations of planetary theories in rectangular coordinates. Here the same methods are used to develop a theory in a set of polar coordinates which is simpler and more convenient in practice. First and secondorder perturbations are considered, and the practical evaluation of the constants is discussed in some detail.
