Geometrical Rearrangement of Aggregated Chlorophyll in vivo during the Greening Process
Abstract
IT has been previously reported1 that the emission maximum from aggregated chlorophyll, in Euglena gracilis strain Z, shifts toward longer wave-lengths as the concentration of chlorophyll increases in the cell. In an earlier paper2 it was assumed that the shift toward longer wavelengths arises from the formation of a distribution of molecular aggregates of different sizes. In this treatment, the geometry of the aggregates was presumed to undergo no change during the greening process. A calculation of the aggregate sizes and their absorption maxima corresponding to the experimentally observed emission bands was made.
