Protein Synthesis in Chloroplasts during Photosynthesis
Abstract
SINCE isolated chloroplasts incorporate radioactive amino-acids into their proteins1-3, it is widely assumed that chloroplasts can synthesize their own protein moieties. There is, however, little evidence available to show whether chloroplasts do, in fact, play an active part in the synthesis of proteins in the living leaf cell4.
