Formation of an Enzyme through Complementary Action of Mutant `Alleles' in Separate Nuclei in a Heterocaryon
Abstract
THE am mutants of Neurospora crassa require exogenous α-amino nitrogen for normal growth and lack detectable glutamic acid dehydrogenase1,2. Several such mutants are now known; all are phenotypically similar, and all, on the basis of limited genetic evidence, have hitherto been regarded as due to mutation at the same locus.
