Photoelectric Observations of Solar-Line Profiles.
Abstract
The profiles of 70 weak to medium-strong solar lines have been determined photoelectrically and corrected for the smoothing effects of both the scanning slit and the spectrograph An exploratory analysis of these lines suggests a turbulent velocity of 1.41 km/sec that appears to be constant throughout the absorbing layers of the solar atmosphere. The ratio / ei does not seem to show much parity effect, though it does vary strongly with excitation potential from about 20 for 0-volt lines to about 300 for 5-volt lines.
