Atmospheres of the B Stars. I. The Supergiant Epsilon Canis Majoris.
Abstract
Three formulations of the curve of growth are applied to the analysis of line-intensity data for the B2 II supergiant E Canis Majoris These include the Schuster-Schwarzschild approximation ( -Wrubel), the Milne-Eddington approximation with pure scattering (Wrubel), and a MilneEddington approximation with pure absorption. The turbulent velocities and the abundances depend on the curve of growth chosen for the analysis. The ionization equilibrium appears to be but little affected. The differences probably reflect the influence of the different basic assumptions that are made in the various curves of growth.
