The DEBYE-HÜCKEL Effect and Statistical Theories for Collision Broadening.
Abstract
The theory of Debye and for electrolytes is shown to be valid and pertinent for ionized gases of astrophysical interest Corrections to statistical theories of collision broadening due to the effect are shown to be negligible in the cases of linear and quadratic Stark broadening of the spectral lines of ions In Appendix I, Debye- effect corrections are calculated for the related problem of the average distance to the nearest charged particle.
