Ablation from Aluminum Ultraspeed Pellets.

Velocities of droplets ablated from the surface of ultraspeed pellets have been obtained experimentally. The velocity data were analyzed to obtain the initial radii and masses of the droplets, which were 5-110 and 0.002-12 5 gm, respectively An average mass of the droplets was used to obtain the amount of material ablated in a given distance along the trajectory The amount of mass ablated by melting was found to depend linearly on the distance the pellet had moved along its trajectory
