Variations in the Stellar Luminosity Function.VI. a Region in Monoceros.
Abstract
Spectral types, red color indices, and magnitudes have been observed in an area of 16.4 square degrees centered at R.A. Dec. - 1.3 (1950). The distribution of 2983 stars according to photographic magnitude is summarized in Table 1. The color indices, summarized in Table 3, indicate no absorption to a distance of 500 parsecs, followed by a gradient of 1.1 mag/kpc to 2500 parsecs. Space densities as a function of distance are given in Table 7. Fignre 3 illustrates the luminosity functions constructed for distances of 100, 200, 400, and 600 parsecs. These functions show little variation with distance and do not differ greatly from the standard van Rhijn function (van Rhijn 1936).
