A Study of the Galactic Cluster NGC 2287.
Abstract
Magnitudes and colors of 106 stars in the region of NGC 2287 (M41) have been observed with a photoelectric photometer mounted on the 24-inch Victoria telescope at the Royal Observatory, Cape of Good Hope. Spectral types and radial velocities for 22 cluster stars were found from low-dispersion spectra obtained at the McDonald Observatory. A proper-motion study was undertaken to eliminate some of the near-by field stars. The distance to the cluster based on the observed color-luminosity array and the interstellar reddening is 725 parsecs.
