A New Molybdenum Carbide
Abstract
STUDIES of the products formed by carburizing molybdenum with carbon monoxide have confirmed the existence of Mo2C (β-phase) and MoC (γ-phase), the latter having the tungsten carbide (WC) structure. But in addition to these two phases, a new carbide (called here the γ'-phase) has been found. The X-ray diffraction lines of this new carbide have not been reported by earlier investigators.
