On the Distribution Function in Phase Space, with Application to the Stationary State of an Ideal Gas
Abstract
An infinite set of partial differential equations which are to be satisfied by the coefficients in a Bruns' series expansion of the distribution function, as a consequence of the principle of ``conservation of densityinphase,'' are obtained. By means of these equations there are derived meteorologically useful expressions for the density and temperature gradients in an ideal gas.
