The Radial Velocity of nu Eridani.
Abstract
Individual velocity-curves were obtained on 15 nights from 220 Mount Wilson and Lick spectrograms. These curves are represented as the sum of three components: (1) a harmonic oscillation with P1 = 0.1779 day, K1 = 11 km/sec; (2) a harmonic oscillation with P2 = 0.1735089 day, K2 = 24.5 km/sec; and (3) an additional, and probably variable, variation of K1 between 8 and 15 km/sec. The absorption lines vary in proffle and are most often sharp on the lower half of the ascending branch of the velocity-curve. The beat period, P3 = 6.9808 days, is sometimes distorted by the variation of K1.
