A Study of the Concentration of Early-Type Stars in Cygnus.
Abstract
The area of 14 square degrees centered on P Cygni contains nine Wolf-Rayet stars, three Of stars, seven early, absorption 0 stars, and numerous other early-type objects. Slit spectra have been obtained for seventy-three of these stars, and photoelectric magnitudes and colors have been determined for most of them. The spectroscopic parallaxes indicate that there is a strong concentration of these objects at a distance of 1600 parsecs. The use of the known absolute magnitudes of the B-type stars permits the following calibration for the absolute magnitudes of the earlier objects: WoIf-Rayet stars, -4.9; Of, -6.0; 05, -5.3; 07, -4.7; and 08, -4.4.
