Radial Velocities of RR Lyrae from COUDÉ Spectrograms.
Abstract
Phase of median velocity is observed to vary from that predicted by a linear formula in accord with variations in the phase of median increasing magnitude. Amplitudes of velocity variationThe amplitudes of velocity variation obtained for metallic lines, for H 12H 8, for Ho, H'y, and Hj3, for H and K of Ca ii, and for Ha are 59, 71, 77, 94, and 112 km/sec, re spectively. The amplitudes of the velocity variations for the H lines exceed the velocity amplitude for the metallic lines by amounts which increase with decrease in quantum number. The amplitude of the metal licline velocities seems to change somewhat. Double absorption linesThe H and K and Ha lines become double during about 1.4 hours of each period. For H and K the center of the interval is 22 minutes and for Ha, 60 minutes after median increas ing magnitude. For all three lines the longward component predominates at the beginning of the interval, the shortward component at the end. The phase for emission linesEmission has been observed accompanying Ha and/or Hy on spectro grams within the phase interval of O.037P, symmetrical with respect to median increasing magnitude
