BD+14°3887, a Peculiar be Star Showing Emission Lines of Nα i, [Fe III], and He I; with a Note on the Spectrum of CD-27°11944.
Abstract
The peculiar Be star, BD+14°3887, shows emission lines of H, He i, Fe ii, [Fe ii], [Fe iii], Cr ii, Mg i, Mg ii, and Na i. The combination of bright [Fe iii], He i, and Na I lines is unusual. The absolute magnitude of the star, the mechanisms of excitation of the emission lines, and the properties of the shell are discussed. New lines are found in the P Cygni star, CD -27°11944. Among these are the two permitted Fe iii multiplets, a5P - 4p5P° and a5D - 4p5P°, which are sensitive to dilution effects
