Phases of work of the Carnegie Institution of Washington which concern the section of oceanogeaphy
Abstract
That part of the work of the Carnegie Institution of Washington during the past year which is of special interest to the Section of Oceanography was the continuation of the studies in marine biology at the Tortugas Laboratory, Florida, and the interest in deep-sea sounding stimulated by the activities of the Advisory Committee in Seismology of the Institution, already reported by Dr. Littlehales.During the summer of 1924, ten research workers were present at the Tortugas Laboratory carrying on investigations more or less relating to the biological phase of oceanography, and material was collected for study in connection with the problem of the formation of marine limestones. This station is to be maintained, and important contributions to marine biology are confidently expected from future researches.
