Discrete-Dipole Approximation For Scattering Calculations
Abstract
This paper discusses the application of the discrete-dipole approximation, or the coupled-dipole method, to calculation of light scattering and absorption by arbitrary targets. It is seen that the scattering and absorption cross sections can be estimated to within a few percent for target with vertical bar mvertical bar less than or equal to 2 where m is the complex refractive index.
