Fast Hα variations on a rapidly rotating spotted star.
Abstract
The observations presented here are part of a program designed to investigate magnetically related activity on lower main sequence stars. The data consist of a time series of spectra taken in the region of Hα with high temporal and spectral resolution. The Hα line was observed in order to study plage and flare like phenomena which might be associated with the spots. In analysing these data it was found that the Hα profile showed rapid time variations, with properties substantially different from any previously reported on any active chromosphere star. In this paper the authors describe these variations and discuss their possible implications.
