Hubble constant in the local region
Abstract
A program was started to obtain distances to all E, SO galaxies in the Shapley-Ames catalog with the hope that the average value of the Hubble constant derived from all these galaxies will be nearer to the true value of the constant free from the effects due to the anisotropic distribution of galaxies in the local region. Distances were derived using the fact that the color in the UV region changes with the absolute magnitude for E, SO galaxies. Thus, an attempt was made to establish for E, SO galaxies the existence of a tight color-magnitude relation, the universality of the CM relation, and the absolute calibration of the CM relation with respect to Local Group galaxies.
