Does the radio spectrum have room for radio astronomy
Abstract
Future band allocations, sharing criteria, and limits of harmful interference are considered with regard to the 1979 World Administrative Radio Conference which will reallocate the radio spectrum until the turn of the century. The requirements for continuum and for spectral line observations are discussed, and current and proposed allocations for the radio astronomy service are presented, ranging from the 13950-14000 kHz to the 265-272.5 GHz bands. Attention is also given to interference to the 18 cm radio astronomy band from meteorological satellites.
