The ISO instrumentation and expected performances
Abstract
The instrumentation for and performance of the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) to be launched in 1990 are described. The ISO scientific payload is to consist of four instruments: a photo polarimeter, a camera system, and two spectrometers. An overview of the characteristics is provided. The predicted performances of the ISO instrumentation are expected to yield an improvement of two orders of magnitude or more in sensitivity and spectral resolution.
