Optical spectroscopy of SN 1987A.
Abstract
Optical spectroscopic data for SN 1987A in the wavelength range 320-700 nm for the period from February 1987 to mid-1988 are reviewed. The characteristics of spectroscopic programs studying SN 1987A are listed and the general features of the optical spectrum are outlined. Line identifications for the spectrum, radial velocity measurements, and records of Balmer line anomalies are examined. In addition, consideration is given to absorption features in H-alpha in early spectra and the fine structure of SN 1987A emission lines.
