An emission line model for AM Herculis systems : application to E 1405-451.
Abstract
A model is proposed to interpret radial velocity and velocity dispersion data from the AM Herculis system E1405-451. In the model, the particle trajectories are integrated in a Roche potential. Two regions are identified in the volume between the white dwarf and the companion: (1) a region where the gas escapes from the secondary and is accelerated along a straight line toward the white dwarf; and (2) a region where the magnetic field diverts the gas out of the orbital plane and channels it toward the white dwarf's surface.
