Procedure for deriving the Forbush decrease spectrum at shallow underground depths
Abstract
The intensity profiles of the neutron monitor and underground data at Mawson were distinctly different during the recovery phase following the intense Forbush decrease of July 1982. In an earlier analysis, the ratio of the Forbush decrease depth in the underground and neutron monitor data had a value of 0.14. This ratio is investigated further in this paper, and its value is derived in a closer fashion. The resulting value is used to derive the mean spectral index of the Forbush decrease over the rigidity range of roughly 2-200 GV.
