L 1642 - A dust cloud in a cometary globule ?
Abstract
Detailed maps are presented of the distribution of neutral hydrogen and gas flow velocities for the region adjacent to and including L 1642. These are found to correlate well with visible nebulosity in this region. The results are tentatively interpreted in terms of a cometary globule structure that contains L 1642 in what may be a hydrodynamic instability. It is noted that, in order to refine the model, additional details of the velocity and mass distribution are needed, together with a detailed theoretical analysis.
