The theory of solar radio bursts - Can it be understood by the non-expert
Abstract
A theory of solar radio bursts involving plasma physical concepts is presented. Several of these concepts, such as plasma instabilities, microturbulence, and particle-wave and wave-wave interactions, are outlined. The quantitative treatment of plasma emission and polarization of the bursts is subject to uncertainty, although a qualitative agreement exists concerning both these phenomena. Theories regarding Type I, II, and III bursts are mentioned, but the quantitative approach to these theories has proved unsatisfactory.
