The search for variable sources at 408 MHz.
Abstract
Some results are reported for systematic observations of 254 sources at 408 MHz with the Molonglo radio telescope. Uncertainties in flux calibration are evaluated, criteria for source variability are listed, and 13 sources are identified as variable. It is noted that these sources, which represent 5% of the sample, show variations of 10% to 40% in a year. This proportion is compared with that obtained in another sequence of low-frequency observations at 365 and 380 MHz, where about 2.5% of sources stronger than 4 Jy were found to vary.
