Progress on 21 cm Studies of the Southern Milky Way
Abstract
Low-latitude observations of the southern Milky Way have been made using the Parkes 64-m telescope with a velocity resolution of 2 km/sec. Results have been obtained for 87 constant galactic latitude tracks spread over a range of 236-345 deg. These were combined with additional observations made with the 30-m telescope at the Instituto Argentino de Radioastronomia to construct a longitude-velocity diagram for the galactic equator. Additional 21 cm surveys are underway, covering a latitude range of -10 to +10 and a longitude range of 240 to 350.
