The zero-mode instability: a new parametric decay instability of a plasma in an external field
Abstract
The parametric resonances involving the coupling of an external harmonic electric field to the plasmadynamical (PD) modes are studied. Particular attention is devoted to the resonant triplets involving purely dissipative PD modes of zero frequency. It is shown that a new type of instability exists in this class of processes.
