α-Transfer and a tetrahedral shape for 16O
Abstract
The addition of a tetrahedral perturbation to the shell model in 16O produces α-particle clustering and has a strong influence on α-transfer processes. The cross-section enhancements for the reaction 12C( 6Li, d) 16O are studied as a function of the strength of perturbation and reasonable agreement with experiment is found for the three final states 0 +, 3 - and 4 + in 16O which are described as members of the tetrahedral rotational band.
