New Content and Functionality in NED: Summer 2019 Update
Abstract
The NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED) is undergoing a major expansion in data content and functionality improvements. A fusion of attributes for prior objects in the system with fundamental measurements from NASA's GALEX, 2MASS and ALLWISE sky surveys, as well as source catalogs from the Spitzer, Hubble and Chandra Space Telescopes and data joined from over 114,000 journal articles, is vastly increasing the opportunities for multiwavelength research and discoveries. We will review highlights of recent additions to the database, demonstrate capabilities of the new user interface, and summarize current plans for the future that are being refined with further input from the community to prepare for the 2020s. NED is operated by the California Institute of Technology, under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
