Comparison of the stellar atmospheric parameter determining accuracy of the SSPP and the full spectrum fitting depending on S/N
Abstract
By adopting an improved interpolator built based on the MILES library, we show that full spectrum fitting method has excellent performance compared to the other methods to determine the basic atmospheric parameters (effective temperature Teff, surface gravity logg, metallicity [Fe/H] and radial velocity RV) of stars from low-resolution survey spectra, even surpassing other methods in the low temperature region (less than 4500 K, and down to 2900 K) and for low S/N spectral data. The relevance of our database of atmospheric parameters for the SDSS spectra is discussed in the frame of Galactic physics. Those stars were selected as members from several globular and open clusters.
