Numerical simulation of interchange reconnection based on the May 12, 1997 CME event
Abstract
We perform a high-resolution MHD simulation of the May 12, 1997 CME event. We focus on the detailed three-dimensional evolution of the coronal magnetic field as the CME propagates through. Our goal is to identify interchange reconnection events between the CME and the ambient field and in particular, we try to quantify the the change in the distribution of the open magnetic flux due to the interaction of magnetic flux carried by the CME with the ambient open flux.
