Chordate Metamorphosis: Ancient Control by Iodothyronines
Abstract
Summary. A new study shows that iodothyronines induce metamorphosis in the cephalochordate amphioxus by binding to a receptor homologous to vertebrate thyroid hormone receptors. Iodothyronine-induced metamorphosis may be an ancestral feature of the chordates.
