The new magnetic Doppler imaging code
Abstract
In this paper we describe a new Magnetic Doppler Imaging (MDI) code INVERS10 designed to reconstruct magnetic fields on the surfaces of CP stars. The code is based on a state-of-the-art radiative transfer solver and efficient minimization technique. It is aimed at multi-processor calculations. This new tool is capable of reconstructing the distribution of magnetic field vectors and abundance of one chemical element from a time sequence of four Stokes parameters, observed with sufficient time and spectral resolution. No assumptions about field geometry (e.g. multipolar, radial etc.) are necessary. In addition, INVERS10 is capable of simulating the observed profiles for a given field geometry and abundance distribution. We also show some results of numerical experiments and discuss future applications of the new code.
