Astronomy Education and the American Astronomical Society
Abstract
This is a history of the role that astronomy education played in the meetings and publications of the American Astronomical Society, during the first century of its existence. We show that interest in education at the Society was cyclical. It ebbed and flowed as small groups of energetic astronomers got interested in education and pushed on the governing councils to expand its role, and then retired or lost interest and new governing groups returned to an emphasis on research concerns.
