Non-equipartition evidence in the lobes of 3C 219 from ROSAT and ASCA observations.
Abstract
The analysis of ASCA and ROSAT PSPC archive data of the radio galaxy 3C 219 suggests the presence of two components in the spectrum: an absorbed power law and a scattered power law with spectral index close to the radio one. In order to study the spatial distribution of the scattered component, the authors have observed 3C 219 with ROSAT HRI. They find extended X-ray emission that is likely to derive from the inverse Compton scattering of nuclear photons with the relativistic electrons in the lobes.
