The Eclipsing Cataclysmic Variable V347 Puppis Revisited
Abstract
An observational study of the nova-like cataclysmic binary V347 Pup (LB 1800) is presented. An analysis of optical and UV spectroscopy is made with the aim of defining the physical properties of the binary system and of the accretion disk. The study of the line profile behavior and the determination of the primary radial velocity are pursued using a variety of methods. We also present the detection of secondary spectral signatures that were used to derive the object's radial velocity curve. A tentative companion spectral classification and spectroscopic parallax are also given. A Doppler tomography study of Balmer and He II lines lead us to an estimate of the average surface brightness distribution of these lines in the accretion disk. Exploratory modeling of the accretion disk in V347 Pup and comparison with UV observations is carried on using the system parameters constrained by the radial velocity study.
