X-Ray Observation of TeV Blazars with ASCA
Abstract
We present data for blazars observed with ASCA, and in particular, for the BL Lac objects that are also TeV emitters. Among them, Mkn 421 is the brightest member, which allows detailed spectral and variability studies in the broadest range of wavelengths. The 1994 and 1995 multi-frequency observations resulted in the detection of a simultaneous keV/TeV flare by ASCA and the Whipple Observatory. This suggests that in TeV blazars, both the keV and TeV spectral regimes are produced by the same, most energetic end of the electron population, radiating via the synchrotron process in the keV, and Compton (most likely SSC) process in TeV band.
